CHAIRMAN DELIVERS PAPER AT ARAB FAMILY BUSINESS CONFERENCE

MUSCAT - Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Harthy, transport and communications minister, said safe guarding the wealth of Arab family-owned companies and facilitating transfer of their management from a generation to another was a national matter rather than a private family affair.

The minister made these remarks while opening a conference on Arab family-owned companies at Al Bandar Hotel at Bar Al Jissah Resort on Sunday 26th February 2006.

He added that the conference reflected the importance of such companies and their materialistic, intellectual and human wealth, noting that those companies played an important role in developing the economies of Arab countries.

Habib bin Abdulnabi Macki, OCCI board member and chairman of the International Relations Comittee, said in an opening address that the Arab family-owned companies remained one of the improtant economic institutions.

He added that the changes in the global economic system had resulted in several challenges which should be overcome by adopting sound planning at these companies.
Dr Omar A'la Eddin Zaidan, adviser at the Arab Organisation for Administrative Development (AOAD), said this conference was meant to respond to several questions relating to Arab family-owned companies and how to preserve and manage their wealth.

Anthony Fisher, chairman of Chela Ltd, was invited to deliver a paper at the conference.

The opening ceremony was attended by ministers, undersecretaries, members of the State Council and Majlis Al Shura, officials of the government and private establishments, AGCC officials and AOAD representatives.
